In order to administer the nitrous oxide, the patient will wear a small mask over his or her nose and begin to breathe normally through the nose. Within minutes, the patient feels the temporary effects of the nitrous oxide which include feeling calm and potentially light-headed, tingling in the arms and legs, and possibly a slight heaviness in the arms and legs, all of which will quickly disappear once the mask is removed.
Oral Sedation Medication
We will conduct an evaluation before your appointment to assess if oral sedation medication is right for you. Oral sedation medication helps patients relax for a more comfortable dental experience. This will provide a deeper level of sedation than the laughing gas. Patients may be experiencing a more significant decrease in consciousness to relieve their anxiety; however, they will not be asleep.
